German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said countries across Europe should work to better distribute Ukrainian refugees.
Faeser told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper that other European Union countries can do more to relieve the strain on Ukraine’s neighbours, which have taken in large numbers of civilians fleeing Russia’s invasion.
Better coordination is needed if continuing Russian attacks prompt another wave of refugees seeking to escape the violence, she argued.
“Poland has so far taken in more than 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees, Spain 160,000,” said Faeser. “It can’t remain that way.”
