Germany’s presidential residence and its parliament, the Bundestag, will fly the Ukrainian flag to mark Friday’s anniversary of the Russian invasion.
The hoisting of the Ukrainian flag on the south-west tower of the parliament building is “a particularly clear sign of solidarity with the Ukrainian people,” the Bundestag administration said on Thursday.
Usually, the black-red-gold German federal flag flies on three of the four towers, with the EU’s blue flag with gold stars on the south-east tower.
The blue and yellow flag of Ukraine is also to be hoisted at 7:00 am (0600 GMT) on Friday in front of the Bellevue Palace, the official residence of Germany’s president. That will be the venue for the central political event marking the anniversary of the invasion later in the day.
The Russian war against the neighbouring country began on February 24 2022.
