German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has assured Israel and its people of German solidarity following the bloody attacks by the Islamist militant group Hamas.

“In this horrible days we are standing with you, we are feeling with you. We are all Israelis in these days,” Baerbock said on Friday at a meeting with her Israeli counterpart Eli Cohen in Netivot near the border with the Gaza Strip.

“I would like to convey our deepest solidarity from the government of Germany, but also from the people of Germany,” Baerbock added.

Baerbock spoke with Cohen at the city’s crisis centre and also visited with relatives of German citizens believed to have been abducted and taken to Gaza by Hamas militants.

Relatives of the hostages were present for Baerbock’s remarks at a joint press conference alongside Cohen.

Cohen also brought Baerbock to see a home that had been hit by a Hamas rocket, killing three people – a grandfather, father and son – inside, according to the German Foreign Office.
