AMB. TIMOTHY NWACHUKWU URGE NIGERIAN STUDENTS TO EMBRACE VOLUNTEERING FOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND EXPERTISE

The Technical Assistant on Communication in the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on Students Engagement and the National Cordinator Sdgs National Students Council, Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu, has called on Nigerian students to consider volunteering as a means to gain expertise, skills, and valuable experience.

While engaging with a cross section of Nigerian Students who reached out to him after his engagement at Aso Radio in Abuja, emphasized the importance of volunteering in the holistic development of students, noting that it provides a platform for young Nigerians to contribute to society while also enhancing their personal and professional growth.

“Volunteering is a powerful tool that equips students with practical skills and real-world experience that are often not acquired in the classroom,” said Amb. Nwachukwu. “It is an opportunity for our students to apply their academic knowledge in practical settings, develop soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and leadership, and build a strong network of professional contacts.”

He further highlighted that volunteering allows students to explore different career paths and gain insights into various industries, helping them make informed decisions about their future careers. “By engaging in volunteer work, students can identify their passions, strengths, and areas for improvement, ultimately guiding them towards a more fulfilling and successful professional life,” he added.

Amb. Nwachukwu also pointed out that volunteering is a way for students to give back to their communities and make a positive impact. “Our students have the potential to drive change and development in Nigeria. Through volunteering, they can address societal challenges, support vulnerable groups, and contribute to the overall well-being of our nation,” he stated.

He urged educational institutions to incorporate volunteering into their curricula and encourage students to participate in community service initiatives. “Schools and universities should create an enabling environment that promotes volunteering and recognizes the efforts of students who dedicate their time and skills to serving others,” he said.

“I called on corporate organizations and non-governmental bodies to support student volunteering programs by providing resources, mentorship, and opportunities for skill development – Collaborations between the government, private sector, and civil society are crucial in creating sustainable volunteering initiatives that benefit both the students and the communities they serve,” he noted.

He concluded by encouraging Nigerian students to embrace the spirit of volunteerism and seize the numerous benefits it offers. “Let us remind our students that volunteering is not just about giving; it is also about growing. It is an investment in their future and a stepping stone towards achieving their dreams.“ stated.
