CDNI Urges President Tinubu to Enhance Citizens’ Welfare on Democracy Day

As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, June 12th, the Calm Down Nigeria Initiative (CDNI) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) to further strengthen the welfare of Nigerians through a structured national social support programme.

In a press statement made available to Presstv News Nigeria, by the group convener, Amb. Frank Albert Jnr, advises President Tinubu to consider establishing a National Support Fund Programme (NSFP) aimed at providing direct financial assistance to citizens across the country.

According to CDNI, the Federal Government can leverage the existing Bank Verification Number (BVN) database to facilitate transparent and efficient distribution of funds to eligible Nigerians. The group proposed a support payment of ₦70,000 every two months to citizens, funded through appropriate government allocations and implemented with proper accountability measures.

CDNI noted that while ₦70,000 may appear modest to some, it could make a significant difference in the lives of many Nigerians by helping families meet basic needs, support small-scale economic activities, and improve living standards.

The organisation further stated that injecting resources directly into the hands of citizens would stimulate local economic activities, boost purchasing power, and contribute to grassroots economic growth. It also argued that improved social welfare could help reduce poverty-related challenges and enhance security by creating opportunities for vulnerable citizens to engage in productive ventures.

CDNI therefore urged the Federal Government to explore sustainable social intervention programmes that directly impact citizens and strengthen the bond between government and the people.
