Death Threat Targets German Jewish Leader Over Call to Ban AfD

German Jewish community leader Charlotte Knobloch has received a death threat after calling for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party to be banned following its election victory in Saxony-Anhalt.

Presstv News Nigeria learnt that the Munich Prosecutor’s Office said on Friday that it had opened an investigation into the threat against Knobloch, 93, who heads the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria.

Andreas Franck, the prosecutor’s office’s anti-Semitism commissioner, said the investigation covers suspected incitement to hatred, threats and criminal damage.

A witness reported the incident to police after finding threatening messages written on a park bench and a rubbish bin in Munich’s English Garden on Thursday.

The Jewish community confirmed that Knobloch was mentioned by name in the graffiti. A Star of David was also among the markings, according to Franck.

Knobloch subsequently cancelled her attendance at an event. Authorities said the messages referred to the AfD’s election result in Saxony-Anhalt… As the investigation is ongoing.
