Navy Arrests Three Stowaways Hidden in Maersk Calabar Propeller Compartment
The Nigerian Navy has arrested three Nigerian nationals who allegedly attempted to travel illegally to Europe after sneaking aboard the merchant vessel MV Maersk Calabar and hiding inside its propeller compartment.
The suspects were identified as Isaiah Oyetayo, 30; Goddey Samson, 26; and Popoola Felix, 28.
Presstv News Nigeria can report that the trio, reportedly boat drivers, were discovered on Monday following information received by the Nigerian Navy about their presence aboard the vessel.
According to the Navy, the suspects had concealed themselves in the vessel’s propeller compartment in an apparent attempt to evade detection and embark on an unauthorised journey to Europe.
They were subsequently taken into custody for investigation as authorities continued efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding their attempt to stow away on the vessel.
The incident highlights the dangers associated with stowaway attempts, particularly the risks of hiding in confined and hazardous sections of large commercial vessels.
