Court Sets Aside Pantami’s PDP Governorship Ticket, Orders Fresh Primary in Gombe
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) race for the 2027 Gombe State governorship election has been thrown open again following a Federal High Court judgment nullifying the party ticket issued to former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami.
The court ordered the PDP to organise a fresh governorship primary to produce its candidate for the election.
Pantami had secured the PDP ticket after emerging from the party’s governorship primary held earlier in the year. His emergence followed his move from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP ahead of the 2027 election.
Presstv News Nigeria learnt that the legal challenge was instituted by another PDP governorship aspirant, who questioned the validity of the process that produced Pantami as the party’s candidate.
In its ruling, the court set aside the disputed primary process and directed the PDP to return to the field and conduct another exercise in line with its rules and applicable electoral provisions.
The judgment means Pantami’s candidacy is no longer settled under the court’s ruling, while other interested aspirants within the PDP could have another opportunity to seek the party’s nomination.
The PDP is now expected to take steps towards organising a fresh primary in compliance with the court’s directive, subject to any further legal proceedings arising from the judgment.
