President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed push to tackle hunger and poverty will accelerate Nigeria’s drive towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Hon. Princess Gloria Akobundu has said.

Akobundu made the assertion while reacting to the President’s remarks at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna, where Tinubu said his administration was working to eradicate hunger and poverty in the country, Presstv News Nigeria can report.

The President, addressing party supporters, said: “I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger; they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it.”

Reacting to the declaration, Akobundu said the President had acknowledged the difficulties confronting Nigerians while outlining what she described as his administration’s determination to address them.

“Mr. President is not denying the challenges. He is confronting them with honesty and determination,” she said.

According to her, the administration’s interventions in agriculture, food security, social investment, cash transfers and support for farmers and women-led enterprises are central to its poverty-reduction strategy.

She said the measures also correspond with the objectives of SDG 1, which targets the eradication of poverty, and SDG 2, which seeks to achieve zero hunger.

“The President is not just talking about the SDGs; he is racing to meet them. Every policy, every intervention and every mobilisation is geared towards lifting Nigerians out of poverty and ensuring that no child goes to bed hungry,” Akobundu said.

She described the Kaduna campaign flag-off as a significant mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the event demonstrated the APC’s continued focus on its political agenda and policy message.

Akobundu urged women, youths, traditional institutions, faith-based organisations and APC supporters, particularly in the South-East, to remain actively engaged in the political process.

“This is not the time for division or distraction. The task of national renewal requires every progressive hand on deck,” she said.

She further described the 2027 election as an opportunity for Nigerians to assess the policies and record of the Tinubu administration and decide whether to support its proposed second-term agenda.

Akobundu reaffirmed her support for the President, saying the administration’s campaign promise of prosperity would remain a major theme as the APC takes its message to Nigerians across the country.
