Man in his 80s becomes second person in UK to die of Coronavirus

The man, in his early 80s and with underlying health conditions, tested positive for the virus and died at Milton Keynes Hospital on Thursday. The hospital said staff and patients who had contact with him have now been isolated and its appointments and services were running normally. The trust said in a statement: ‘Sadly, we can confirm that a man in his early 80s being cared for at Milton Keynes University Hospital has died.His family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at what is undoubtedly a difficult and distressing time.

All services and appointments at the hospital are running normally. The trust is following established guidelines to minimise the risk of the virus spreading. ‘We will not be commenting further and ask that the family’s privacy is respected
The UK’s first death linked to the virus happened yesterday, when a woman in her 70s who also had underlying health issues died in hospital. The second fatality comes as the number of confirmed cases in the UK shot up by 48 in one day, bringing the total to 164. Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty said officials were working to track down anyone the man had contact with in the days before he died. He added: ‘I am very sorry to report a second patient in England who tested positive for Covid-19 has sadly died. ‘I offer my sincere condolences to their family and friends and ask that their request for privacy is respected.
