ARSENAL beat Southampton 3-0 in the Premier League on Saturday but some fans were left divided over the team’s performance.
Arsenal fans were largely delighted with their team’s result against Southampton on Saturday, however some supporters remain pessimistic about the club’s future prospects.
The Gunners beat the Saints 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium to move up to fifth in the Premier League table at the time of writing.
The away side had dominated the play in the opening 20 minutes, before two quickfire goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Martin Odegaard turned the game on its head.
Gabriel headed in Arsenal’s third just after the hour mark to make sure of the win, in what was overall a good performance from Mikel Arteta’s men.
As well as the three goalscorers, Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Gabriel Martinelli all impressed but some will feel that on the balance of play, the game was a lot tighter than the scoreline suggests.
Arsenal went into the game out of form, having lost three of their last four fixtures, and were unexpectedly without club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was dropped from the matchday squad due to disciplinary issues.
As a result, many fans were happy to just get the three points, but a few are not letting the win get to their head.
Here is the best reaction to the game from Twitter:
@Afc_Mxth: So, you’re telling me it’s the same players that we used against Everton? I swear it’s so confusing to be an Arsenal fan.
@afcxseb: You see the difference when you attack after the first goal! Gabi and Ode deserve massive big ups today.
@AFCWaIter2: Sorry for robbing you, @SheffieldUnited. If you want we’ll happily pay the extra £15m you originally wanted [for Ramsdale].
@ABTNews_AFC: Ramsdale was magnificent, Gabriel Magalhães did well, Tierney was immense, Tomiyasu excellent, White tried, Partey was good, Xhaka was decent, Saka was a thorn in the flesh, Lacazette was superb, Martinelli never stops running, Odegaard was awesome. Clean sheet! Good weekend.
@iam_Reedone: Again Aaron Ramsdale keeps sending Bernd Leno to bench. Gabriel with the attitude. Tomiyasu with the strength. Lacazette could’ve bang a hatrick. Saka brilliant. Martinelli needs to learn how to keep the ball on purpose, not every time running. Odegard outstanding.
@SpritusInvictus: Played with a lot more freedom in the final third. Handbrake off. Martinelli my MOTM. I so desperately wanted a goal for Tommy.
Nevertheless, Southampton was the better side for the first 20mins. If they had better finishers, it’s a different result.
@anndrewmathew : Nice result and goals. It was nice not to see them sit back for 60 minutes for a change. As soon as we face another top 10 side we will humiliate ourselves all over again. Sack this rookie or we will finish 10th.
@BrutallyGooner : Great win. Now do that against West Ham.
@ntvilll : Should have been 8-0, we played a team that just signed a part-time keeper. Ramsdale bailed us out plenty too.
@qukety : 15/26 points have come from 5 bottom-placed sides. I want to see Arteta beating West Ham. Stat padding Vs an injury-depleted Southampton doesn’t count in my books. (football london).
