War Against Illicit Drug: Group Commends NDLEA DG, Calls for More Sensitization Programs

The Director General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Retired General Buba Marwa has been commended for the numerous feats achieved by the anti-drug agency in the past few years.

The commendation was contain in a media statement signed by Comrade Ibrahim Olayiwola, Convener of the ANTI DRUG ABUSE CLUB, a non- governmental Organization, NGO established to draw attention of the populace, particularly youths and school children to the danger of drug abuse in the country.

The group lauds General Marwa’s led NDLEA in its aggressive war against drug abuse, describing it as unprecedented in the country. Comrade Olayiwola particularly hails Marwa for the arrest of drug baron linked to a senior police officer in Nigeria. He charges the DG not to relent in its efforts, noting that Nigerians are with him in this herculean task.

The anti-Drug Abuse Club also commends the Federal Government for giving tactical support to the NDLEA. Olayiwola in his statement made available to PRESSTV MEDIA appreciates President Mohammadu Buhari for providing technological tools to enhance the operations of the agency.

The Anti-Drug Abuse Club was established on 13th February 2022 to encourage both youths and adults on the need to shun abuse of drugs and addiction to illicit substance which is in tandem with the goals of the Director General of NDLEA, Gen. Bubar Marwa.

Olayiwola noted that his group is informed by the seal of General Marwa led NDLEA to provide more enlightenment and education on factors that constitute drug abuse and how to do away with it.

Anti-Drug Abuse Club have set aside numerous educative projects of providing periodic virtual lectures, symposium and conferences to schools, organizations and groups on drug addictions, drug abuses, its health and social implications and the position of law on certain drugs.

It is imperatively on record that high rate of drug abuse and drug addiction exists among Nigeria youths.

Olayiwola however calls for more education 0n drug abuse as he urges Federal government, it Agencies such as the NDLEA and others to partners with NGOs so as to help curbs the menace of drug abuse and drug addictions by the “CATCH THEM YOUNG” project of the Anti-Drug Abuse Club.

“We are visiting both primaries and secondaries school, inviting hotel owners, in order not to allow lodgers who imbibe in drugs and selling of drugs in their terrain, create awareness to educate them morally, hosting town hall meetings, sensitization programs, print flyers in an attempt to educate the populace on the danger of drug abuse and drug addictions.

Ibrahim enjoins all members of the public to provide useful information to the drug agencies NDLEA on any environment where such black spot of drugs are spotted and not to harbor them.
