Bayern seek record 18th away game without defeat in CL group stage

Bayern Munich aim for stretch their unbeaten record in Champions League group stage matches away from home to 18 in Copenhagen on Tuesday to gain sole possession of another competition record.

Bayern have not lost a group stage match on the road in more than six years since a 3-0 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in September 2017, which at the time ended the tenure of coach Carlo Ancelotti at the German side.

Bayern are now tied on 17 games unbeaten away with Barcelona, who achieved the feat between 2006 and 2012, and can move one ahead in Denmark.

The PSG defeat was also Bayern’s last group stage loss overall, as they are unbeaten in a record 35 games since then, winning 32 and drawing three.

The last 14 of those were victories which is also a Champions League record, the last dropped points being in a 1-1 draw at Atletico Madrid in December 2020.

Six-time winners Bayern opened the latest campaign with a 4-3 home win against Manchester United. Copenhagen drew 2-2 at Galatasaray and enter the Bayern game having never beaten a Bundesliga side in Europe in 12 games to date.

“We definitely want to win so that we have a good starting position in the group,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said.
