Union’s Gosens travels to Leverkusen despite baby being due

Union Berlin left back Robin Gosens will travel with the squad to Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday despite the imminent birth of his second child.

“He can travel with us. On standby, of course,” coach Urs Fischer told reporters on Saturday ahead of the clash with the Bundesliga high-fliers.Gosens could though leave for the hospital if the call comes.

“Mobile phones are a good way of being informed these days. So he can be on standby.”

The 29-year-old had already informed Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann that he would not be available for friendlies against Turkey in Berlin on November 18 and against Austria in Vienna three days later.

Union ended a run of 12 defeats in a row with a 1-1 Champions League draw at Napoli in midweek.
