EXPOSED: HOW NNPC SPENT 14.7 BILLION NAIRA ON ENTERTAINMENT, N114.2 BILLION NAIRA ON REPAIRS - NIGERIAN YOUTH PATRIOTS REITERATES DEMAND FOR THE SACK OF GMD MELE KYARI AND PROBE OF NNPCL

Following the unending mind boggling revelation from the
financial statements of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), A National Youth Group advocating for Patriotism, Nationalism, Transparency and Accountability in Nigeria, The Nigerian Youth Patriots (NYP), has reiterated it’s call for the immediate sack of the GMD of NNPCL, Mr. Mele Kyari.

In a strongly worded statement by Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu LLB, The President, Nigerian Youth Patriots (NYP), the group called for the immediate overhaul of the management of NNPCL for its legacy of debilitating consumption of public revenues, inefficiency, mismanagement, performance failures, monumental waste, corruption, lack of transparency and accountability by the NNPCL led Mele Kyari.

The Group called on Nigerians to brace up and demand for the removal of Mele Kyari, the overhaul of the management of NNPCL and the audit of the moribund corporation to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient management of Nigeria’s crude oil.

Nigerian Youth Patriots expressed sadness that despite its inability to refine a drop of crude oil, NNPCL continues to pillage Nigeria’s resources with unimaginable spending of N14.7billion and N7.4 billion on entertainment expenses for the year 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The group further stated that available records from NNPC official data revealed that as part of its general and administrative expenses, NNPC expended N100 billion in 2021 and N114 billion in 2022 for rehabilitation, repairs and maintenance of Port Harcourt refinery, Kaduna Refining Production Company, and the Warri Refining Production Company without refining a barrel of crude oil for the nation.

The Nigerian Youth Patriots strongly advocates for a comprehensive independent audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to identify financial irregularities, diversion of funds, embezzlement, discrepancies such as overbilling, ghost projects, misappropriation and further Investigate contractors working on the refinery, examine the selection process and contracts awarded to vendors to ensure transparency and fairness thereby restore public trust, ensure accountability, and promote sustainable management of Nigeria’s oil and gas resources.
