Presidential Committee to Launch Nationwide Campus Campaign Against Social Vices

The Presidential Special Committee on Campaign Against Social Vices in Secondary and Tertiary Institutions has announced plans to commence a nationwide campus-wide advocacy and sensitization campaign aimed at combating the growing menace of social vices among students across Nigeria.

In a press statement made available to Presstv News Nigeria, by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Committee, Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu, LLB, APPMON, disclosed this in Abuja while outlining the Committee’s strategic roadmap for youth engagement and value reorientation.

According to Amb. Nwachukwu, the campaign is designed to directly and indirectly reach over 10 million students in secondary schools, colleges of education, polytechnics, and universities across the country through sustained advocacy, public enlightenment, stakeholder engagements, media campaigns, and community-based sensitization programs.

He noted that the alarming rise in social vices such as cultism, cybercrime, drug abuse, examination malpractice, prostitution, internet fraud, violent extremism, bullying, and other criminal activities among young people has become a major threat to national development and social stability.

“The future of our nation depends on the character, values, and productivity of our young people. We cannot afford to watch social vices destroy the dreams and aspirations of millions of Nigerian students. This campaign is a proactive intervention aimed at educating, mentoring, and inspiring students to embrace positive values and responsible citizenship,” Amb. Nwachukwu stated.

He explained that the advocacy campaign would involve partnerships with educational institutions, traditional rulers, religious leaders, student bodies, civil society organizations, security agencies, development partners, and the media to ensure a broad-based and sustainable impact.

The Committee’s spokesperson further revealed that special anti-social vices clubs, campus ambassadors, leadership mentorship programs, and awareness rallies would be established in participating institutions to strengthen the campaign’s reach and effectiveness.

Amb. Nwachukwu emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to youth development, national security, and the promotion of ethical values among Nigerian students.

He called on corporate organizations, philanthropic foundations, educational stakeholders, and development partners to support the initiative, describing it as a collective responsibility to safeguard the future of the nation’s youth.

“The target of reaching 10 million students is ambitious but achievable. With the support of stakeholders and the cooperation of educational institutions across the federation, we are confident that this campaign will significantly reduce the prevalence of social vices and promote a culture of integrity, discipline, and excellence among students,” he added.

The nationwide sensitization campaign is expected to commence in phases, covering all six geopolitical zones of the country, with various advocacy activities scheduled throughout the year.
