NUPENG Commendation Affirms Tinubu Infrastructure Reforms Are Working – Arodiogbu

The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), South-East, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, has described the commendation of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) President, Comrade Oladiti, of the Federal Government’s road rehabilitation and construction efforts as a significant validation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s infrastructure agenda.

Oladiti, while speaking on behalf of petroleum workers, highlighted the direct impact of improved federal highways on the safety and welfare of tanker drivers and other road users.

He said: “For our members, a good road is the difference between arriving home safely and never arriving at all. Every stretch of highway rehabilitated or constructed means fewer accidents, fewer spillages, fewer lives lost, and less stress for the men behind the wheels.”

Reacting to the statement, Arodiogbu said the testimony was particularly important because it came from workers who operate daily on Nigeria’s highways and therefore experience firsthand the consequences of poor road infrastructure, Presstv News Nigeria can report.

According to him, the NUPENG President’s remarks demonstrate that the Federal Government’s investment in road infrastructure is not merely about constructing physical assets, but about saving lives, reducing transportation risks, improving logistics and strengthening economic productivity.

Arodiogbu said, “This is the kind of testimony that should encourage Nigerians to appreciate the practical impact of President Tinubu’s infrastructure programme. When the people who spend their lives on our highways tell us that better roads are reducing stress and improving safety, that is tangible evidence of reform delivering results.”

He commended President Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, for sustaining the rehabilitation and construction of critical federal highways across the country.

The APC South-East leader noted that quality road infrastructure remains fundamental to the movement of agricultural produce, petroleum products, manufactured goods and people, stressing that improved connectivity would contribute significantly to economic growth.

He further observed that safer highways could help reduce accidents involving heavy-duty vehicles and petroleum tankers, while also minimizing the economic and environmental consequences associated with road crashes and spillages.

Arodiogbu urged the Federal Government to sustain the momentum by ensuring that ongoing road projects are completed to high standards and properly maintained after completion.

He also called on road users, particularly commercial and tanker drivers, to complement government investment by observing safety regulations, avoiding reckless driving and maintaining their vehicles.

“Government can provide good roads, but every stakeholder has a responsibility to ensure that these investments translate into safer highways. The ultimate objective is to build a transportation system where Nigerians can travel, move goods and conduct business with greater confidence and security,” he said.

Arodiogbu said the commendation from NUPENG further reinforces his belief that the Renewed Hope Agenda is increasingly being felt beyond government offices, particularly by workers and communities whose daily lives depend on functional infrastructure.

He added that the rehabilitation of federal highways represents an investment not only in roads, but also in human lives, economic productivity, national connectivity and Nigeria’s long-term development.
