The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved ₦631.3 billion for nine road projects across Nigeria, including major reconstruction works in Ekiti, Kogi and Kano states.

Presstv News Nigeria learnt that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this while briefing journalists after Wednesday’s FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.

The approvals include ₦209 billion for the reconstruction of the 81.1-kilometre Ado-Ilawe, Ilumaba-Ikole Road in Ekiti State, including a bridge, and ₦167 billion for the 95-kilometre Etuke-Okeni, Ankpa-Otopa Road in Kogi State.

The Council also approved ₦89.2 billion for the construction of the 47-kilometre Bichi Ring Road, including a flyover, in Kano State.

Other projects include approximately ₦62 billion for the Tungo-Karamti Road linking Adamawa and Taraba states, which will feature five bridges, and ₦30 billion for remedial works on deteriorated sections of the East-West Road.

The Council further approved ₦28.218 billion for the rehabilitation of a 17-kilometre section of the Sokoto-Illela Road, Route A1.

An additional ₦20.257 billion was approved for an 18-kilometre road linking Asiago to the Port Harcourt–Enugu Expressway, while ₦11.33 billion was earmarked for a road project previously handled by the Abia State Government.

According to Umahi, the Abia project required a new funding arrangement following the discontinuation of its financing under the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s tax-credit scheme.

The ninth project is the Dikko-Maje link road in Niger State, connecting to the Suleja-Minna Road, for which ₦14.486 billion was approved.

Meanwhile, Umahi said the first 118-kilometre section of the Abuja, Kaduna, Zaria Road had been completed within 30 months, with 81 kilometres constructed using reinforced concrete pavement.

He added that work on the second section, covering 164 kilometres, was nearing completion, with only 16 kilometres remaining.

The minister also disclosed that the entire 375-kilometre Abuja, Kaduna, Zaria, Kano corridor would be equipped with solar powered streetlights.
