With the need to catch them young as leaders of tomorrow for a better Nigeria; about 800 hundred youths from across the city of Lagos State converged at the Rotary District 9110 Youth Leadership Award (RYLA 2021) held on Tuesday the 11th of January, 2022 at the Orientation Camp of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Lagos State at Iyana- Ipaja in Agege Local Government Area of the state.
Mentoring the youths on Leadership, the Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA) Lagos Directorate, Mr. Waheed Ishola talked extensively on each of the seven National Core Values as enshrined in the 1999 constitution Chapter 2, section 23 (as amended): these are: Patriotism, Discipline, Integrity, Dignity of Labour, Social Justice, Religious Tolerance and Self-Reliance. He further urged the youths to always have the right attitudes and values (love, trust, tolerance, self-control etc.)
– They are to have a Patriotic Spirit (by putting Nigeria first in whatever they do and play a patriotic role to expose evil acts around them).
– They are to embrace Dialogue and imbibe positive attitudes and behaviour from their parents, teachers and religious leaders.
The Director noted that if the above core values are strictly observed, it will allow the youths as change agents to positively contribute to the development of the nation and do away with all such vices that are inimical to national image and development
The high point of the event was the robust questions and answers session which gave more understanding to the participants.
