Why Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola ‘YAYI’ Is Qualified to Lead Ogun State
Senator, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola
By Presstv News Nigeria Editorial Board
Leadership is not merely about occupying an office; it is about possessing the experience, competence, character, vision and capacity to transform public trust into measurable development. As Ogun State approaches the 2027 governorship election, the question before the people is not simply who wants to govern, but who has demonstrated sufficient capacity to lead the state into its next phase of growth.
At Presstv News Nigeria, we believe Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, has built a public service record that makes a compelling case for his candidacy.
Our endorsement is founded on his years of legislative experience, professional background, understanding of public finance, grassroots political engagement and demonstrated familiarity with the machinery of government.
A Record of Legislative Experience
Senator Adeola’s political career has taken him from the Lagos State political arena to the House of Representatives, the Senate and, since 2023, representation of Ogun West Senatorial District. He previously represented Lagos West in the Senate from 2015 to 2023 and served in the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015.
Importantly, Adeola served as Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts and later became Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance. He currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
For Ogun State, these assignments matter.
A governor must understand budgets, revenue, expenditure, accountability and the relationship between policy and implementation. Senator Adeola legislative responsibilities have placed him directly within some of the most important areas of national fiscal management.
A Professional Background Relevant to Governance
Beyond politics, Senator Adeola is a chartered accountant and tax consultant. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a 2024 congratulatory message, described him as a chartered accountant and accomplished tax consultant.
This professional foundation is particularly relevant at a time when subnational governments must think creatively about internally generated revenue, responsible expenditure, investment attraction and sustainable development.
Ogun is an industrial and economically strategic state. Its next governor will need more than political popularity. The state requires a leader capable of understanding numbers, negotiating with investors, managing public resources and translating economic opportunities into jobs and improved living standards.
In our view, Adeola’s professional training and legislative experience provide a strong foundation for that responsibility.
Experience Beyond a Single Constituency
One of the strongest arguments for Senator Adeola governorship is the breadth of his political experience.
His public career has exposed him to both constituency level representation and national policy making. His transition from Lagos West to Ogun West also demonstrated his ability to establish political relevance beyond the constituency where he first built his profile. YAYI political network and engagement across Ogun State have continued to expand, while reports on the 2027 political process indicate that his party structures ultimately backed him as the APC consensus governorship candidate.
That development, however, should not be viewed as a substitute for competence. Political endorsement creates an opportunity; it is performance, vision and accountability that should determine whether that opportunity is deserved.
The Yewa Question and the Need for Inclusive Leadership
Ogun State is a diverse political community comprising different interests, communities and identities.
Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola emergence also carries significance for the long standing aspirations of Ogun West and the Yewa people for greater political representation at the highest level of the state. But our endorsement is not based solely on zoning or sectional considerations.
Ogun State needs a governor who can govern all of Ogun – Ogun West, Ogun Central and Ogun East; urban centres, rural communities, and businesses, workers, young people and senior citizens.
The real test for Adeola, therefore, will be his ability to transform the political goodwill surrounding his candidacy into an inclusive governing philosophy.
A Governor Must Be an Economic Manager
The future of Ogun State will depend heavily on its ability to attract investment, expand its industrial base, improve infrastructure, strengthen education and healthcare, create employment and build a sustainable revenue system.
This is where Solomon Olamilekan Adeola background deserves serious consideration.
His experience in public finance and legislative budgeting gives him an understanding of how government resources are generated, appropriated and deployed. His professional background in accounting and taxation also provides useful tools for navigating the fiscal realities facing modern subnational governments.
But experience must translate into results.
If elected, Adeola should therefore be judged against clear benchmarks: improved infrastructure, stronger education and healthcare systems, greater investment, youth employment, agricultural development, efficient public transportation and transparent management of public funds.
Ogun Deserves Continuity of Progress, Not Complacency
Ogun State has developed into one of Nigeria’s important economic hubs. Its proximity to Lagos, industrial capacity, educational institutions, agricultural potential and growing urban centres give it enormous possibilities. Yet potential alone is not development.
The next administration must be prepared to move Ogun State from being merely a destination for industries to becoming an even stronger environment for innovation, manufacturing, technology, agriculture, touSrism and human capital development.
That requires a governor who understands both government and the private sector: Senator Adeola professional and legislative journey positions him to appreciate these two worlds.
Our Editorial Position
Presstv News Nigeria therefore believes that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola YAYI has earned serious consideration as the next Governor of Ogun State.
We are persuaded by the combination of his legislative experience, professional competence, knowledge of public finance, political reach and understanding of the state political landscape. His record does not make him infallible, and an endorsement should never mean that a candidate is beyond scrutiny. On the contrary, we believe an Adeola administration must be held to the highest standards of transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and performance.
Our endorsement is consequently not a blank cheque.
It is a call for the people of Ogun State to examine his record, interrogate his plans and compare his experience with the demands of governing a rapidly changing state.
If Senator Adeola wins the confidence of Ogun voters in 2027, he will inherit a state with enormous opportunities and equally significant responsibilities. We believe he possesses the experience and institutional understanding required to take on that challenge.
For us at Presstv News Nigeria, the choice should ultimately be about competence, capacity, accountability and the future of Ogun State.
Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola ‘YAYI’ has demonstrated the capacity to lead. Ogun State now has the opportunity to decide whether that capacity should be entrusted with the highest office in the state.
