Ebola Update: WHO Says Nigeria Has No Active Case After Patient’s Evacuation
Nigeria currently has no confirmed active Ebola case following the evacuation of the infected patient to Switzerland, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.
Presstv News Nigeria learnt that the development comes after the patient, who was diagnosed with the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, was transferred to Switzerland for further medical care.
WHO said the evacuation means there is currently no confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria, but stressed that health authorities are maintaining surveillance and monitoring individuals who may have been exposed to the patient.
The organisation urged continued vigilance, noting that the situation requires sustained monitoring until the necessary public-health follow-up processes are completed.
Nigeria’s health authorities have continued contact tracing, surveillance and other preventive measures to ensure that any potential transmission is detected and contained promptly.
The case had raised public-health concerns after the patient arrived in Abuja from Uganda and subsequently tested positive for the virus.
While the latest WHO update provides reassurance that there is currently no active confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria, health officials are expected to maintain heightened surveillance as part of efforts to prevent a resurgence of the disease.
