Flood: CDNI sympathises with Borno govt, residents - Pledges support for victims

Calm Down Nigeria Initiative (CDNI) condole and sympathized with the government and people of Borno state over the recent devastating flood disaster that has displaced thousands of residents and damaged several properties in the state on Monday 9th September, 2024.

Maiduguri in Borno state, Northeast Nigeria is facing its most severe flooding since 1994, this flood is reportedly due to the overflow of the Alau Dam, which has been filled to capacity for the past week. The flood ravaged major areas – including the palace of the Shehu of Borno, the state secretariat, post office, cemetery, Bulabulin, Gwange, Monday market, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and Kofar Shehu, among other locations.

The peace, unity and development promotional group, expresses their great concern on the disaster that that has internally displaced many residents who have been counting their losses, “ we extends our sympathy to the families who have lost their loved ones, also to the state governor, Prof Babagana Zulum,” As we prays they find solace in these hard times.

According to the D.G Calm Down Nigeria Initiative, Amb.Frank Albert Jnr Okolie, said, “We condole with Governor Zulum, the affectees and indeed the good people of Borno state that they are not alone at this difficult time. Our prayers and sympathies are with them as we continue to pray that the flood will recede quickly and the people will return to their daily life and activities.”

He expressed sincere respect for the officials of federal and state emergency agencies, NGOs and well spirited individuals for their relentlessly efforts, and urge the Federal and state governments to do everything to restore the stability to the affected area within state.

CDNI, also urged the humanitarian groups, corporate organisations and individuals to come to the aid of flood victims in Maiduguri, they require the support of all and sundry in terms of food, medical supplies, clothing, among others.
